That is because when you formatted them on the Mac, OS X used HFS+ for the file system (the default on a Mac) and Windows doesn't know about HFS+. They were formatted NTFS because it's a bad idea to format large volumes as FAT16, which is the file system set on most thumb drives. I Have 2 Memory Sticks 8GB and 4GB they were formatted to ntfs
